art critique
The art work I choose was “Road with cypress and star”, by Vincent van Gogh. This painting is also
known as county Road in Provence by Night. This particular painting is an 1890
oil- an canvas painting, as you look at the painting you can see little lines
on how he used the oils to make this art
work. Road with cypress star painting has a big tree with on one side what
looks like to be the north star and the
other side is what looks like to be is a crescent moon. The
more details about this painting is looks like far away could be mountains and
close up looks like a carriage and a small cottage and two people .
The colors use in this paining are more of a mix of cool
colors like it’s a night sky. He uses light blue and works his way up getting
the blue to get darker with a mix of white streaks. The blue really contrast
with the tree in the middle because the tree is a dark green with mixes or tan streaks as used
as in the ground that looks like dried out grass .
Everyone says that paintings have a meaning or are telling a
story. When I look at this picture everything seems to be peaceful and calm. Like
the people that are in the painting are just going on with their lives and not
worried about a single thing. And while what’s going on above them is the “Road
with cypress and star”.
I liked how you can tell how he painted this picture like all
the streaks go upward and the way he did it like the oils never change
directions. It all looks neat and organized and how he used details with different
colors around the moon and the star to make it look like it is shimmering or a light
at nights. Its hard to tell but in the background it look like it could be some
mountains. He uses alloyt of more details in the sky.
